Here’s some additional hiring advice not included in the video…

1. Cultivate a Pipeline of Talent

Having one or two candidates isn’t enough. You need a pipeline of strong candidates. Only then are you in a position to choose the best of breed. The more options you have, the better choices you will make.

2. Share the Vision

Make sure the person you’re hiring shares your vision. If they don’t get what your company is all about, it won’t be a good fit. Also, your vision is your best selling point. To attract top talent, you need a big vision they can get behind.

3. Test Actual Skills

Look at the person’s real skills and test them. Don’t rely on the resume or fancy universities. They won’t matter in the end.

4. Build Team Buy-in

Make your entire team part of the hiring process. If you don’t get their buy-in, you’re running the risk of creating a hostile environment for the new employees. The more buy-in, the smoother the transition.

5. Be Swift

Don’t hesitate. Move fast when hiring good people. They won’t be around for long.

6. Offer True Benefits.

True benefits are ones that directly affect an employee’s bottom lines, like equity ownership, bonuses, free food, cool gadgets, etc. You’d be surprised at how much bang for your buck you can get out of a free gadget.
