John Furey was born in the USA in 1960 and within a year his parents moved to Europe. He grew up in Lugano and then Geneva, Switzerland and received a traditional English education. During his travels in the 80‘s and 90‘s he became fascinated with human nature, what drives it and how it shapes our differences. His passion for observing and understanding human nature blossomed particularly during the five years he spent living on the African continent (‘81-’86) where he was confronted with the stark differences between European and native African thinking.

Christian Perry, founder of SF Beta, is one of the most dynamic people we know. In a very short time, Christian has transformed SF Beta into a hub of founder activity. It is now San Francisco’s largest monthly startup mixer. Since launching in September, 2006, SF Beta has brought together thousands of people from hundreds of startups, creating innumerable connections along the way.
The irrepressible Christain Perry is someone every founder should meet. He has become a central figure in the Bay Area startup world, and now he’s expanding to Boston… so watch out East Coasters!
I highly recommend you go to these events. They’re a ton of fun, and provide great insight into up-and-coming startups.
Ask the VC is similar in concept to Founders Space, except that, instead of tapping into a broad network of advisors, the answers are provided by two individuals: Brad Feld and Jason Mendelson. Basically, you ask them questions, and they provide answers from a VC’s perspective. The thing that makes this site work is that they are two smart venture capitalists. Jason is not only a VC, but also a lawyer, so Ask the VC includes legal advice too. We see this as a good resource for founders.
Background on Brad & Jason:
Brad Feld and Jason Mendelson are the co-authors of AsktheVC. Brad and Jason have been working together since 2000 when Jason joined Mobius Venture Capital, a venture capital firm that Brad co-founded. They started writing together on Brad’s Feld Thoughts blog in 2005 with their Term Sheet series. After several other series about issues facing venture capital backed companies, Jason and Brad decided to start AsktheVC. Brad and Jason, along with three other partners have recently founded a new venture firm, the Foundry Group located in Boulder, Colorado.
FeldThoughts is a nice blog for founders. It lets you into the mind of Brad Feld, a thoughtful VC. Brad likes early stage tech companies, and his blog offers some good insights and helpful advice to entrepreneurs.
Brad’s Background:
Brad has been an early stage investor and entrepreneur for over 20 years. Prior to co-founding Foundry Group, he co-founded Mobius Venture Capital and, prior to that, founded Intensity Ventures, a company that helped launch and operate software companies and later became a venture affiliate of the predecessor to Mobius Venture Capital.
I really get a kick out of Venture Hacks. They have attitude, and they give great advice to startups seeking venture funding.
Venture Hacks is the product of Nivi (bio) and Naval (bio), two self-proclaimed students of life, and their mission is to share the best startup advice they’ve got.
These guys are for real. They are very connected, and they have founded companies like Epinions; invested $20M in companies like Twitter; helped start companies backed by Sequoia, Benchmark, Kleiner Perkins, and Atlas; and advised many others.

The mission of the NLC is to train and support the next generation of progressive political entrepreneurs – those who are leading industries, setting trends, and building institutions that support robust civic and political life in a global America.
NLC believes in recruiting emerging leaders from outside of the traditional power structures, engaging them on both local and national levels, and equipping them to be civic leaders – not only for elective office, but also in their communities and workplaces.
